For companies that want complete control over their applications, AceGain provides a comprehensive management console. This console gives administrators complete control over every element of the DRAMA platform. When coupled with the AceGain SDK, there is no aspect of a DRAMA-based application that can't be managed.
The three components of the DRAMA Framework are:
PEER-TO-PEER MONITORING
With most monitoring solutions, a central monitoring server is responsible for periodically polling each machine to check its status. During each polling cycle, the server will check to see if the machine is still up and running. Unfortunately, this linear method of polling leaves significant risk of unchecked downtime. If a machine fails, the administrator will not be notified until the next polling cycle. AceGain DRAMA eliminates this risk by enabling P2P Monitoring.
In a P2P Monitoring environment, each node will monitor the nodes around them. This provides an ‘always-on' monitoring situation—every node will be monitored at all times. As soon as a node goes down, its neighbors will alert the proper administrators, and the problem can be resolved immediately.
MANAGEMENT INSTRUMENTATION
DRAMA includes a management instrumentation layer that is responsible for accessing management information in an enterprise environment and retrieving information about managed objects. Managed objects can be anything that is being managed by the application including hardware components, processes, applications and networks.
The Management Instrumentation layer is also responsible for remotely controlling managed objects such as has hard drives, processes, applications and data. This layer is what allows administrators to perform any type of action on remote managed objects over the network.
POLICY-BASED RULE ENGINE
Management applications are meant to increase the administrator's productivity. DRAMA's Policy-based Rules Engine enables administrators to define events, processes, policies and rules (via a script, program or reporting tool) and tie them system thresholds.
For example, an administrator can create a process that automatically backs up data from a group of servers. DRAMA will only trigger this backup process if all administrator-defined criteria are met—such as a specific CPU usage on the servers. If all the servers are operating at a specific level, the backup process will commence. If at any time during the process the levels change, EAN can pause or restart the process. |
